Hello!
Since not long ago I started taking more “professional” photos. I did a presencial course and then I did few online courses. Most of them focus on tools to be used in Windows or Mac.
But there’s a lot of FOSS that is multi platform or that work on Ubuntu perfectly. Took me a while to find the right tools. But here I am sharing 😉
Digikam
This was a great discovery, everywhere you will hear about lightroom from adobe, but here I propose to you Digikam as FOSS alternative and multiplatform.
I use Digikam to sort pictures, rate them, tag them, export them, you can work in Raw, you can add effects, mass rename etc…. It’s a must have tool
Here a video that helped me quite a lot:
Gimp
Gimp is photoshop for Free.
Let’s keep it this simple, it’s an excellent FOSS alternative to PS , I use it to fix backgrounds remove, pimps, eye bags and other small imperfections, not reall complicated to use, fast and again its for free 😉
Shotwell
Shotwell is a photo manager for GNOME 3. Works really fast and only will work on Linux.
I like it since makes it super easy to browse your pics (in raw too), and make some edits, crop, resize, change colors. Its the first tool I use to preview the pics and to make the firsts edits such as crunch the blacks adjust brightness, shadows… Easy to use and a must have!
Magic Lantern
This is not software for your computer but a software to add extra features to your camera, just format your SD card and add magic lantern, all the sudden you will have many new options available into your camera! MAGIC!!
Kolourpaint
Kolourpaint is the alternative to the windows paint. I use it sometimes to make quick edits….like copy paste images, resize or add a simple text. REally simple tools and super fast. Only works on Linux environments.
Any other FOSS worth mentioning?
UPDATE: Please take a look to the awesome Pixls.us site and the Software section, you will love it!
