So just 2 days a go was my 30th birthday, got some old friends writing to me. Talking them and explaining what I was currently doing, made me realize how many things I have done, many nice stuff but also some others…..FAILS
This is my personal Fails & Wins since I started doing things with computers and having jobs.
I Fail 🙁
- I bought a car with my first real job, couldn’t pay it later…
- Not leaving some companies earlier than I should.
- Listening to people that only sees negative and never positive.
- Many micro businesses that didn’t go as well as hoped xD (some of them listed):
- Deambulando.com, still live a blog that made quite money, was banned from google adsense.
- Porwebs.es, I tried to make a free web builder here, and offer free hosting.
- Tweetlist.net, classifieds in tweets, Twitter changed the API, got tired, closed it.
- Gateame.es, reddit/meneame for cats!
- Adsbarcelona.com, classifieds site in Barcelona, still have ClassifiedsBarcelona.com makes some $ monthly.
- Ocaku.com, a meta search engine for classifieds sites, DB grew to over 14MM records and I couldn’t monetize it so I was losing around $100 month till I refactored to something simpler, ocacu.com
- Aderous.com, tried to dominate worldwide classifieds, got full of spam, still makes some revenue, but I dislike it
- neo22s.com, a personal blog, a lab and a forum, none of this exists…
- dontcode.com, this was suposed to be a company to offer software development services, Open Classifieds took all…
- Startuphouse.es, one drunk night in SFO bought the domain and never done anything in it, just my wife for her final thesis on the master used it luckily.
- Adserum.com, last fail and invested many hours here…
I Win!
- Learning PHP dropping ASP back in 2008.
- Dropping usage of Windows in 2008 also.
- Kindle, I read more than ever and save a lot of money.
- Android, I don’t think I use a phone, it’s a really portable computer.
- Open Classifieds / Open eShop, so far my biggest personal win.
- Tumanitas.com, love my other company, learnt tons there!
- Travelling a lot and lived in different places.
- English, yes I did learn English although I write like a 4th grader xD
- Project Management at Berkeley, loved the experience of been at San Francisco!
- Master degree at UPC, a bit too long but learnt and met many interesting people.
- Work as freelance for a while, gives you a different perspective to your job.
- Opening a company in the UK.
- Remote working, well not 100% true since I go to an office in the mornings whenever I want xD.
- Learning about agile methods and Scrum, makes my life easier and more efficient.
- Having a lean life, without crazy expenses and doing what I like!
There’s not any specific order to this list 😉
